How to clear the Browser-Cache

Emptying the cache on the iPhone: How does that work?

Emptying the cache regularly makes slow iPhones faster again. It also frees up valuable storage space. Which cache needs to be cleared also depends on the apps used.

Clear the cache in the Safari default browser

  1. Navigate to Settings
  2. Find Safari and click on it
  3. Now press "Delete history". After a new query your data and cookies stored in the browser have been deleted.

Firefox for iOS:

  1. Open the app
  2. Navigate to "Settings" and then to "Privacy
  3. Click on "Delete private data", then confirm your decision once again. The memory in Firefox for iOS App is now deleted.

For Chrome:

  1. Go to the settings via the icon with the three dots
  2. Select "Privacy
  3. Go to "Delete browser data".

For Puffin:

  1. Click again on the settings icon with the three dots
  2. Then select the gear icon
  3. Now you can remove the data you no longer want by clicking "Delete browser data" and "Delete all".

Remove cache directly from Apple iPhone up to series 8

The cache of the device can be cleared using a largely unknown trick. With all models up to iPhone 8 this is child's play. All you need to do is:

  1. Press and hold the power button until the power off bar appears
  2. Instead of confirming the switch-off, click your home button
  3. Wait a few seconds until you are back on your home screen. The cache was cleared during this time.

Remove Cache on iPhone X without Home Button

The basic procedure is similar, but with iPhone X the home button is missing, so some additional steps are necessary. First you have to activate its virtual deputy. It works like this:

  1. Navigate to the settings of your iPhone
  2. Now go to "General" and then to "Operating aids".
  3. Activate the virtual home button by moving the AssistiveTouch bar to green

The dark button with the circular center is the virtual home button.

  1. Now press the power button until the power off bar appears
  2. Click there on the white circle with the lettering "Home"
  3. Press and hold until you are back on the home screen to empty the cache

You can also delete entire records of individual apps by going to "Settings" and "General". After clicking on "iPhone memory" you will be shown how much memory is used by which app and can empty it completely there if necessary.
